Description

11th century Babadja-Khatun is the only mausoleum in Central Asia with 16-rib umbrella shaped dome. Arabic note on the wall says: “The woman from the country of Babadji”.

Mausoleum is famous for its 16-rib umbrella shaped dome. There is no second architectural monument of this kind in the Central Asia. The figured brickwork decorates the walls of the Mausoleum.

Kazakhstan’s medieval monuments represent particular interest, especially the mausoleums. The Babadja-khatun Mausoleum is renowned for its original sixteen-ribbed dome on a many-sided star-shaped base.

Impressive features of its decor include a band around the building with Arabic ligature. The monument has been preserved to this day without significant alterations.
