Description

In the central part of the modern Taraz City in the Zhambyl region, there is a mausoleum of Dauytbek Shamansur. This mausoleum has been built over a grave of one of the Mongolian deputies of Ulug-Bilge-Ikbalkhan Dauytbek. Among the local population, it is a monument of architecture it is most of all known under the name of the mausoleum of Shamansur.

Such location of this funeral construction isn't casual, nearby there is Karahan's mausoleum, and all territory was once included into Rabat of the ancient settlement Taraz. Small historical information, Rabat (Arab. — the suburb), the craft and trade suburb in the cities of Central Asia and Persia in 7 — 8 centuries Rabad adjoined a Shakhristan. In 9 — 10 centuries Rabad becomes the center of the economic and political life of the east feudal city. At 11-12 centuries when the Mongolian deputy has been buried his mausoleum was in the center of the ancient medieval city.

The architectural monument presents itself the mausoleum executed in the form of a portal and dome construction square in the plan and constructed of a burned brick. The portal is low, smooth with two small turrets on the parties. The portal is closely brought closer to a dome part of the mausoleum. Doors of the mausoleum are decorated with a fancy east ornament. The basis for a stocky dome is arches and walls of the mausoleum. In the center of the internal room, there is a gravestone in the form of a stone step pyramid. All structure of the mausoleum is put from the flat burned brick. The architect and the builder are unknown.

The mausoleum has taken the modern form in the second half of the 19th century as a result of numerous reorganizations and recovery work. With high probability originally, the mausoleum had an appearance of a small construction of rotond type on to which four semicircular arches the dome stuck. Arches leaned on the stone base put from plates.

On a gravestone pyramid, the inscription in Arabic specifying date of death of Dauytbek Shamansur of-1262 g is cut. This inscription has been investigated and read twice in 1893 by the scientist V.V. Bartold and in 1939 the academician A.M. Belenitsky. At the literary translation on the modern language, the inscription sounds as: "The dead owned a sword and a feather. I was a defender of the Koran and devout".

Now the mausoleum was exposed to restoration works so twice in 1981 restoration was made by the Jambyl restoration workshop. Author of the project of restoration Kuandykov.

In 2001-2002 have been carried out large-scale restoration by the organization RGP "Kazrestavration".

In 1982 Dauytbek Shamansur's mausoleum has been included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of Republican value and taken under the protection of the state of an object "Monuments of ancient Taraz", and in 2008 has been allocated as a separate culturally historical object.
