Karamergen (in translation from Turkic. "the black hunter") - the largest and most northern medieval city of an agricultural civilization in the ancient delta of the river Or the XII-XIII century of the century. Nowadays represents the ancient settlement, object of tourism and archaeological researches in the territory of Almaty region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The ancient settlement in the Sary-Esik Desert conceals in itself ruins of the ancient settlement of Kara-Mergen.

At the ancient bed of the Ortasu River out of which the main channel which was formed by two channels was also brought: one of which departs from the Ortasu River, and another - from the river Mingilchi. This channel is called Zharanda. Karamergen grew up in lower reaches fertile a cone of the carrying out irrigated by waters of the ancient delta of a river.
