The mosque Kunanbaya Uskenbayev is, perhaps, the most important sight of the small town of Karkaralinsk located in the Karagadninsky region. It is one of the oldest Kazakh mosques in our country her construction has been begun in 1849, and in 1853 doors of the mosque have been open for numerous believers.

Besides architectural value, this monument has also high spiritual value for all judges of the Kazakh culture. The mosque has been built by the father of great Abay - Kunanbayem Uskenbayev.

In 1849 Kongangbai Uskengbayev has been chosen aha - the sultan of the county Karkaraly (the head of public and administrative life of Karkaraly and neighboring tribes) and has moved to the permanent residence to the town of Karkaralinsk together with numerous family and suite of the people.

So being still a little boy Abay has appeared in Karkaralinsk with which many warm memoirs have been for the rest of life connected.

All these facts were well known to another Kazakh writer Mukhtar Auezov who in particular wrote: "In the city of Karkaralinsk in all district Abay both from the Father and from other people often I heard about the mosque.

He knew that her construction Kongangbai has won general respect and glory. The first and only mosque in the city of Karkaralinsk and in all district construction has been begun at the expense of Kunanbaya last year".

Reportedly Abay repeatedly happened in the mosque to which building there are about 150 years. Practically each resident of Karkaralinsk can tell about numerous visit to the hometown by great Abay.

It is necessary to tell that, in the epic novel Mukhtara by Auezov "the Way of Abay" Kongangbai Uskengbayev appears at us as the severe despot. Actually studying of other sources shows that everything is much more difficult and the image created by M. Auezov was rather collective, for example here that the exiled Polish revolutionary Adolf Yanushkevich writes about Kunanbaye:"

Recently more and more accurate the understanding that the severe despot-father the acquaintance to us according to the epic novel Mukhtara by Auezov "the Way of Abay" — only an artistic image, a tribute to the censorship of that time demanding application of methods of socialist realism at the description of bay-feudal (rich feudal) Lords comes.

The fact that in fact, Kongangbai Uskengbayev isn't similar to the described such "bloodsucker of the simple people" is confirmed by memoirs of Tourist's Agul Kunanbayev, Arkhama Iskakova, Akhata Kudayberdiyeva. The Polish exiled revolutionary Adolf Yanushkevich who has spent about thirty years in the Kazakh steppes witnessed stay of Kunanbaya in auls of the Senior zhuz.

In the book "Diaries and Letters from a Travel on the Kazakh Steppes" he gives the short, but capacious characteristic of Uskengbayev: "He looked the true steppe prophet, the judge of incorruptible honesty and the approximate Muslim, Kongangbai has gained to themselves glory of the prophet to whom from the most distant auls hurry behind council young and old, poor and rich".
